The Code


The Mack Tansey Mayeda annotated Criminal Code is the first (and only) open-source, bilingual Criminal Code in Canada. In conjunction with the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, Dallas Mack, Louise Tansey and Graham Mayeda are the senior editors and content providers. Dallas, Louise and Graham work with students from both the civil and common law programs to develop precise, coherent and structured annotations which are continuously updated.

In addition to the annotations, the Mack Tansey Mayeda Criminal Code has up-to-date constitutionality rulings which ensure the user has current information about the constitutional validity of every provision. This unique feature provides invaluable support and assurance to practitioners and jurists.


The Authors


Dallas Mack

Dallas Mack is a Deputy Crown Attorney in Ottawa with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with Honours in Chemistry and Bachelor of Law (LL.B.), both from the University of Ottawa. Dallas was called to the Bar for Ontario in 2002 after articling at the Ottawa Crown Attorney’s Office. Related to his work as an Assistant Crown Attorney for 18 years and now Deputy Crown Attorney, Dallas regularly lectures for police and Crown prosecutors in Ontario, and has been invited to lecture across the country on various issues including impaired operation, Charter motions, sentencing and Dangerous Offenders. Dallas is also the recipient of a Ministry of the Attorney General Excelsior Award, an OPP Commissioner’s Commendation and Prosecutor of the Year Award from the IAFCI. In addition to his work at the Crown Attorney’s office, Dallas has been an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, since 2007 - teaching Forensic Science (2007-2018) and Trial of a Murder (2018-present). Dallas is also the author of Mack’s Criminal Law Trial Book (Thomson Reuters), Mack’s Criminal Law Bulletin (Westlaw Edge Canada) and Mack’s Jury Charge Review (Westlaw Edge Canada).

Louise Tansey

Louise Tansey obtained a BA (2005) in psychology and geography from Concordia University. Following that she attended the University of Ottawa where she completed her LL.B (2008) and LL.L (2009).

Louise articled at the Ottawa Crown Attorney's office where she was hired after her call to the bar of Ontario in 2010. Louise is now Counsel to the Regional Director of Crown Operations for the East Region where she prosecutes criminal matters in both official languages before the Ontario Provincial and Superior Courts of Justice. Louise has also served as the East Region’s representative to the Sexual Violence Advisory Group. Since 2014 Louise has also been a part time professor at the Faculty of Common Law at the University of Ottawa.

Graham Mayeda

Graham Mayeda is a professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa. He completed both his Ph.D. (Philosophy) and his JD at the University of Toronto. He was a law clerk to the Hon. Louise Charron at the Supreme Court of Canada, after which he was called to the bar of Ontario in 2005. He has taught criminal law and sentencing for many years, and he conducts research in both areas. He is a member of the Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario (AJÉFO), and he teaches courses in both French and English.



Cecilia Bouzane

Cecilia Bouzane is a graduate from Laurentian University in 2016 with a BSc. with a specialization in Forensic Science. Cecilia subsequently graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2019 with a J.D. from the French Common Law program. She later clerked at the Superior Court of Justice in Ottawa from 2019-2020.Called to the bar in June of 2020. Since then, Cecilia has worked as an Assistant Crown Attorney at both the Brampton Crown Attorney's office and the Ottawa Crown Attorney's office and has been at the Ottawa office since April of 2021.

Khor Rad

Khor Rad is an Assistant Crown Attorney with the Ottawa Crown Attorney’s Office. She did her undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa and obtained a BCL/JD degree from McGill University in 2019. She summer and articled with the Crown Law Office – Criminal before getting called to the bar in 2021. Before joining the Ottawa office, she was counsel with the Crown Law Office – Criminal
